Nina Vaupotic, PhD

Nina is a postdoctoral researcher specializing in science and risk communication, with a particular focus on how people perceive the risks of various environmental pollutants—ranging from PFAS and microplastics to 5G technologies. Her research combines large-scale cross-country surveys, experimental designs, and qualitative methods to better understand public attitudes and beliefs.

Nina is involved in two Horizon Europe projects. In GOLIAT, she explores misconceptions about 5G and health across diverse groups, including experts, laypeople, and individuals who identify as electrosensitive. In SOS-ZEROPOL, her work focuses on the perceptions and drivers of environmental risks, examining how attitudes about systems and technologies influence public support for environmental policies.

Before joining the University of Vienna, Nina completed her PhD at the University of Münster, where she investigated trust in science, public engagement, and intellectual humility. She holds a BA and MA in Psychology from the University of Ljubljana.
