Noah Fried

Noah Fried has joined the Urban and Environmental Psychology group as a PhD candidate in April 2026, after previously working with the group as a research assistant (and before that, as a master student).

His four-year PhD project as part of the new research platform STRENGTH (Strengthening Resilience and Preparedness to Prevent and React to Emerging Socio-Natural Hazards and Risks) entails a collaborative investigation into emerging complex socio-natural disasters due to a changing climate, together with other PhD students and principal investigators from the fields of geomorphology, geoinformation, and environmental economics. His research on psychological processes around hazards, risks, and ultimately disasters will investigate mechanisms behind risk perception, preparedness, resilience, reaction, and recovery and how can they inform risk/disaster communication and policy.

In his previous role as research assistant, he worked with the group on the Horizon Europe Project SOSZEROPOL-2030, performing several supportive tasks. His master’s thesis analysed survey data from 19 countries to investigate select mental health benefits from visiting different kinds of blue spaces (water environments).
