SOS ZEROPOL2030
The SOS-ZEROPOL project aims to develop a holistic, stakeholder-led framework for zero pollution, ultimately reflecting the EU´s very ambitious policy and regulatory framework for protecting our seas with focus on the zero environmental pollution agenda.
The projects spans 10 European institutions, coordinated by MaREI, the SFI Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine Research at University College Cork.
Sabine Pahl, Nina Vaupotič, and Valeria Vitale are investigating people’s perceptions of risk related to different environmental pollutants, including microplastics, PFAS, excess nutrients, and underwater noise. They aim to understand the psychological dimensions of risk perception, policy support, and pro-environmental behavior in the context of environmental contaminants by analyzing a large cross-national dataset on public attitudes toward pollution. They strive to identify commonalities and meaningful differences across pollutants, test theoretical models, and explore the role of worldviews such as systems thinking to support individual- and society-level transformations toward better planetary health.
SOS-ZEROPOL2030 is funded by Horizon Europe as part of the ‘Clean Environment and Zero Pollution’ call.
The project has been awarded EUR 2.9 million in funding and will run from September 2022 – September 2026.
Duration: September 2022 to September 2026
