Sandra Geiger, PhD researcher in our group, is the proud winner of the Dr Edouard Delcroix Incentive Award 2023. The Dr Edouard Delcroix Incentive Award (2.500€), jointly awarded by the non-profit association HYDRO vzw and the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ), aims to encourage fundamental and applied research that significantly contributes to understanding the links between ocean and human health. Sandra received this award for her work on “Coastal proximity and visits are associated with better health but may not buffer health inequalities” recently published in the journal Communications Earth & Environment. In this research, she finds that living nearer to the coast and visiting it more often are associated with better self-reported general health regardless of income across 14 European countries and Australia.
